“Before I Go” Little Compton, Rhode Island by Ed King Rhode Island Photographer

“Before I Go” Little Compton, Rhode Island by Ed King Rhode Island Photographer - Tonight I spent the evening watching the sunset with my wife and youngest daughter; there is nothing better than watching my daughter walking the beach being chased by waves or her looking for sea glass along the pebble beach. I really love being able to share times like these with my family and photography gives us that quiet down time where we just listen and watch as time passes us by, a rare occasion in the world we live in today… Enjoy “Before I go” Little Compton, Rhode Island

Embrace The Lens – Marketing through Photography by Ed King (Rhode Island Photographer)

Talking with other photographers I’ve been surprised and impressed at how often certain communities, businesses, museums and event managers have embraced local photographers. I think there is a certain mindset that understands the value and appreciation of how good local photography can stimulate interest. You will find many active photographers have a vast network in social media and many photographers use every online venue to share their work.

There seems to a small trend in certain areas where photographers are being invited or granted special access and even free passes or admission with the knowledge that these images will reach a broad audience, provide promotion and network with potential guests that the venue or event may have never been able to reach.

This isn’t about free photography, it is about someone saying “You take some great pictures and I have a spot on my balloon next weekend would you like to join us so you can blog and share pictures about the experience? If this was me I’d be there in a second, I am always looking for my next adventure and composition because I like to make art and it is a passion.

Who follows a photographer?

  1. Other Photographers – many of which travel to capture interesting places & events.
  2. Those who enjoy quality pictures , history, adventure and culture
  3. Those interested in travel and vacation destinations
  4. Art enthusiasts & musicians
  5. Bloggers
  6. Web developers & SEO Consultants

These just name a few of the types of followers but there are so many more.

The lasting effects of images online offer great SEO value since many of the photographer‘s back link, provide information and insight through a blog as well as tag and Geo Tag images. The benefits and rewards as well as the online exposure can continue on well after the initial posting.

A creative way of marketing with little or no cost and the potential to stimulate new business while helping local artists gain exposure – “The Giver’s Gain”

Give it a try and embrace the lens!

“Come Sail Away” The Rhode Island Shore by Seascape Photographer Ed King

This morning like most mornings when I head out for the sunrise I set the alarm for 4:00am, made a pot of coffee and gathered my gear. This morning was like a new beginning, the weather is getting warmer and I only packed a sweatshirt. I almost forgot how early first light begins and even though most would think it was an early start my adrenaline was rushing. Once I am along the shore I am in my element, there is not much I think about other than the beauty of the sea and sharing these moments through art. I hope everyone finds something they are truly passionate about because there is a certain feeling you can’t explain when you reach it. My mind starts to slip away and I start to visualize my work whether it is shutter speed, light or composition. Like a natural high you wish it could go on and on, the sound of the ocean, the birds working the shore and almost hypnotic show of natural light. I find there are times I really need to pull myself back in and realize where I am and the possible slip and falls dangers as well as those rogue waves that can roll in.

After shooting the pre-dawn light I start working compositions with some dramatic water flow. I will almost always, when I am by myself, take a few minutes just to sit back and do nothing but watch, look and listen before calling it a day. I found this spot and my mind started to wander about sailing and the possibilities of reaching untouched shores and remote beaches yet to be photographed… It’s good to dream and for now here is “Come Sail Away”

Come Sail Away lyrics
Songwriters: Deyoung, Dennis;

I’m sailing away

Set an open course for the Virgin Sea
‘Cause I’ve got to be free
Free to face the life that’s ahead of me

On board, I’m the captain
So climb aboard
We’ll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I’ll try, oh Lord, I’ll try to carry on

Cloudy Reflections by Ed King Rhode Island Photography – Sandwich, MA

There is a certain light and conditions that I see before I even press the shutter that I know will make a keeper image and this was one of them; I have this stunning 16″x20″ print framed in my own home. The location of this image is the boardwalk in Sandwich MA and is looking out over Mill Creek and the beautiful marsh that reaches out to the beach. Cape Cod in general is a photography treasure with so many pictureaque towns, glistening harbors and that traditional New England spirit so many are so fond of. You can find this print for sale in my online gallery and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

In my early days of looking to the web for inspiration and advice I found a great appreciation for industrial beauty and urban scapes. I even tested the waters with my own take of Urbex as well as street Photography, that was until I feel in love with shooting seascapes. This is an older image of the power plant I had taken in the city of Providence, Rhode Island. Providence is a great city for photography with so many different options from historic homes, a beautiful skyline and a fun energetic vibe. This not to mention a great food scene for when you take a break!

Enders Falls Granby, CT – New England Waterfall Photography

Last weekend I made the fairly short drive to Enders Falls in Granby, CT, I say short but here where I live in Rhode Island you can cross the state in 45 minutes so for most people spending an one hour and forty five minutes seems like an eternity. This beautiful stretch of river actually has 6 sets of falls and if I didn’t know I was in Connecticut it could easily pass for Vermont. The morning ended up with a very bright clear blue sky very early on and I never realized how this dense forest could glow so bright so early in the morning. I will most surly be back in the fall and look for a day with cloudy skies to work on some long dramatic exposures hopefully with some fall foliage.

Wasted Days & Sleepless Nights – Little Compton, Rhode Island by Ed King

“Wasted Days & Sleepless Nights” Sakonnet Point – Little Compton, Rhode Island. I think many photographers who shoot the sunrise can relate. I end up getting up so early I burn out most of the day and then I end up wired by the time night comes. I do think the peace and tranquility of the morning sun makes up for it all especially along the Rhode Island shore. This image was shot at Sakonnet Point in Little Compton, Rhode Island and available as a print from my online Print Gallery.

“Behind Closed Doors” – Walking with history Newport, Rhode Island Photography

My local travels in search of artistic imagery and interesting compositions takes me once again to the city by the sea, Newport, Rhode Island. Newport has always been an exciting place for me ever since my younger days of hanging around the beaches or evening rides around Ocean Drive. As I’ve grown in my adult years I’ve taken notice to another side of Newport, it is a seaside community with such a historic past that a short walk will transport you architecturally back in time. Many of the historic homes, businesses and religious gathering places have been preserved with such care and dedication it does not go unnoticed even to my untrained eye. This particular composition made me stop in my tracks, the textures, tones and a fighting balance between light and shadow caught my eye and I just had to capture it. Thank you for taking a look at “Behind Closed Doors” this image will be available in my online gallery if interested.

“Alone & Free” Rockport, Massachusetts by Rhode Island Photographer Ed King

“Alone & Free”  Rockport, Massachusetts by Rhode Island Photographer Ed King
The explanation behind this shot was I actually was set on getting a good image of Motif #1 but I was drawn away by this scene. The atmosphere as I was setting up the shot is what prompted me to name it before I even pressed the shutter (I do that quite often). I could hear the rumble of a diesel engine from a lobster boat getting ready to head out and the gulls were calling out over the harbor almost blending in harmony with the church bells which had started to ring. The quiet sound of a moving tide and a the soft coo of pigeons under the dock almost as if keeping time. The floating dock, although moored down, looked and felt so free and that is why I call this “Alone and Free”.

This image is available as a print and you can find it here on my website or contact me for more information.

“Square Root” Flower Art by Rhode Island Photographer Ed King

Spring in Rhode Island is in full bloom and there is no overlooking the potential for some outstanding images around every corner. I’ve recently been just heading out the door and walking around with my gear, visualizing architectural compositions and interesting flower combinations for new wall art prints to be offered on my site and shown locally. My two favorite towns for historic architecture and incredible spring time color is Newport and Bristol, Rhode Island.

I really enjoy the relaxed pace and paying close attention to the many things I have taken for granted. I also find walking around with a camera people are not shy to introduce themselves or compliment me on my subject choice. I even had one nice couple from South Carolina, who were visiting a niece in Newport, ask if there was a way to contact me about this particular shot I was taking. They only viewed it through my LCD display on location but mentioned they had to stop when the saw me composing this lone flower.
